Description
You are bidding on a high-quality reprint of the 1917 book "Naval Ordnance", U.S. Naval Academy, 1917, 450p. This book represents the state of the art of munitions, artillery and Naval Ordnance in general at the time of WWI. For instance, one of the guns was intended to be drawn by horses(!). At that time, making a large canon was a long and drawn-out process involving a number of separate steps and much manual labor. Many technical details of the construction of these weapons are discussed. As is typical in technical books of this era, there are more hand-drafted pen&ink technical drawings than there are photographs. There are quite a lot of illustrations and photographs.
Chapters include Metals used in Ordnance, Naval Rifled Guns, Details of Gun Construction, Breech Mechanisms, Naval Gun Sights, Gun Mounts, 12-Inch Turret Mounts, Firing Attachments, Field Artillery, Explosives, Smokeless Powder, Ammunition, Projectiles, and many more.
PLEASE NOTE THAT NO ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO USE THE SAME BINDING AND PRINTING TECHNOLOGY OF THE ORIGINAL. The reproduction is entirely modern. It is printed on 24 lb stock using a laser printer. The cover starts with card stock printed with a scan of the original front and back covers. The manual is bound using comb-binding so the manual lies flat when open. There is a 10-mil clear acetate cover on both front and rear card-stock covers.
